i read an article stating that Mississippi Catfish is having a grand opening on Sat April 8th from 12-8 pm, Apparently, the owner of the building where they were previously located sold it so they had to close. Now, they will be located @ 4203 Valley View Rd, El Sobrante,CA (not too far from the 80Fwy) It's under the same ownership.. Let's support our local businesses.... They supposedly will have the same menu...

This is my first time here. I thought it was new. But my mom said it's been there for years. I ordered snapper and catfish À la carte carte. It came in a timely, hot and fresh. The chef was even nice enough to give me free fries. I think the classic indoor decor is relatively nice enough to sit and eat. The fish smelled fresh threw the bag and smelled even better out the bag. I don't usually eat California catfish I usually stick to snapper. But I am a seafood connoisseur so I had to try it, and was gladly surprised And I'm pretty sure that it is specifically Mississippi raised catfish. I'm going to ask him next time. (you know it's good fresh fish when it doesn't have that fishy smell.) By the way I am a licensed seafood handler. So I pride myself on this knowledge. Literally the best Fried fish in Richmond. I still haven't found any better in Oakland yet.

I had a hankering for a decent shrimp Po' boy sandwich and I've found one at a affordable price to boot. For $11 you get the sandwich and a side. The sandwich was on a soft roll as it should be. All too often it's found on sourdough which isn't the same experience. I elected to have the black eyed peas which were good. I elected not to opt for coke slaw as it was on the sandwich. They were out of potato salad. I didn't want fries. So black eyed peas it was and I was happy. Can't say I ever ordered them before but it was a nice accompanying dish. It was small though. Taken with a coke this meal filled me up. I'll be back! Give it a try. They please to order. Make sure you allow time for them to make this. They don't hurry the order. Delicious! Beware they are open only Thursday through Saturday.......

If you're craving southern style fried food, this is the place to go. Tried the chicken wings, shrimp, fried catfish, hush puppies and fries which were all fried perfectly. The fried catfish really stood out though. It was exactly what you want when you order fried catfish-seasoned well, crisp, and fresh. What made it even better was the amazing customer service. The staff was super friendly, they really made sure we had everything we needed and were some great conversationalist too. I will definitely be going back!

Amazing food prepared and served by great people make this a required stop when in Richmond. We called in our order and waited about 10 minutes after we arrived for the food to be ready. This is a cool local joint that shares space with a Smog Check and goes all in on Southern Fried Seafood. We wanted to try a selection of things so we went with Cici's 4+4, which included four fried shrimp, four pieces of fish (2 catfish and 2 snapper), black eyed peas, coleslaw and hush puppies. We added an order of fries and the total was $22. The food was super fresh and crunchy in their house made breading and the shrimp were possibly the best we've ever tasted. The coleslaw was not too sweet and the black eyed peas we incredibly creamy and flavorful (but not vegetarian). I wish we had ordered extra hush puppies instead of the fries as they we addictive with a slightly sweet crispy crunch. The owner is really friendly and helpful. This place is the real deal!

I was riding around and spotted this. It caught my eye from the name alone. That, and I like trying smaller places - the places that are probably known, but hype isn't surrounding the business. It makes me even happier when they deserve hype! I phoned in my order of four pieces of catfish and shrimp served with two sides. I already had a good feeling about the food from the name alone. It's simple, but it's saying a lot. Them serving black eyed peas as a side REALLY made my eyes grow bigger, and they lived up to what I expected. The catfish is nice and crispy. That wasn't no Lousiana Fish Fry breading. That was their own mix of corn meal, flour and whatever seasoning they used. Had to be! I didn't even have a need for the hot sauce or tartar sauce my catfish was served with. The fries are good and seasoned - not just a salt seasoning, either. The hush puppies are perfectly crispy on the outside with just the right amount of fluffy softness on the inside. They're a little sweet too, which I like. Some places just use too much onion, which I'm not a huge fan of anyway. I saw the peach cobbler sitting on the counter when i came in for pick up. I added that on and glad i did. Like, she BUSTS! I put it in the oven later and OH MY GOD. Yeah. Try this place. CASH ONLY. I see happiness in your future.
